About Plastics.....The Plastic Water Bottle
It amazes me that so many people are still using the old plastic water bottle. There's so much information out there that these bottles contaminate drinking water.
Generally, they leach microplastics into the water but there's more risk to it than that. You don't know where those bottles have been. More likely than not, they've spent some time in a hot warehouse or a truck with no climate control or too much climate control. They hang out in all sorts of places on their way to your local grocery store, convenience store or restaurant.
Sitting in a hot space, such as these, for hours, not only do they shed microplastics, but they start breaking down into the thousands of chemicals they are made up of. These chemicals leach into the water and whomever drinks them out of the bottle, drinks them rather directly. Some are endocrine disruptors that prevent reproduction or damage the process of reproduction, some do worse - cause cancer over time or, now links have shown, plastic chemicals are behind the steady increase in Parkinson's Disease diagnoses.
The petroleum industry hopes you'll ignore these thoughts and go along doing as you have been. They are trying to up the use of plastic everywhere while telling us that it can all be recycled (but we know that's not true, don't we?).
So, the next time you go, or someone you care about goes, to buy a 12 or 24 pack of bottled water, stop and ask, Do I really want to take this risk?
